Thought you guys might enjoy this, came in on the flatbed yesterday. Says he was just driving along.

may have been driving along, but driving along and hit large inanimate object like a speed bump or tractor trailer tire. OUCH!
Sure makes the dif fluid change easier.

The left torsen bearing is split (you can see the rollers) and so is the cap.
AFAIK: signs of insantly messed-up pinion / ring contact.
If the pinion or ring teeth don't break-off, something else has to give.
In this case the ring went out the back.
Can you still turn the pinion?
Who did the last diff oil change?
(and used CRV diff "oil"..)

Not sure the fluid history, new customer.
Says he was beating on it days before, but when this happened he was at an intersection driving normal.
Pinion was free.
I'm guessing this is from high rpm clutch dumps from a dead stop.
