Default Diff Fluid Reccomendations-100k on

Hi,

Recently joined the S2K community after buying a 2001 a little over a week ago. Hopefully am posting this in the right section, apologies if not!

Amazing car, love the way the back just slides out instead of breaking away like the heavy BMW'S i'm used to.
Reminds me of my much loved Starion i lost to the old tin worm />

Now this site has already given me a wealth of info, but i wanted to ask what diff fluid anyone can recommend for a high mileage S2000?

I'm currently just over 100K, and from the history it hasn't been changed since 75k a couple of years ago.

I was hoping that the Diff mounts needed replacing, as under fast up shifts or low rev laboring (which i try to avoid!) i get a 'knock' from the back end.

But under closer inspection, all the mounts are good, but there is a fair bit of play from the n/s drive-shaft, where as the o/s is solid.

Next year i will be hopefully fitting a recon diff, but in the meantime i was hoping a fluid change will help for now.

Just wondered if i'd be better of going for a slightly thicker viscosity than the 75w90 that's advised.

Any help would be great,

Keith

First time I've heard someone describe an '01 rear end sliding out rather than breaking away. Honda sold a whole lot more '00 and '01 S2000s than there are alive in the world today. Snap oversteer tends to kill them a little more often than the later years.

Thanks,

I will be Torquingthe Axle nuts this weekend, will let you know if it solves the knock.

Well the sliding out may have a lot to do with the fact i have yet to drive her in the dry here in the UK, it being December and all!

Also the fact i currently have a fairly worn set of Hankook's rubber on the back, just waiting for my spigot rings to arrive and will be fitting 225 40 R17's with new Falken FK452 rubber fitted.

Should improve grip levels somewhat, however i must admit i have been enjoying the low speed drifts on the way to work in the mornings.

I will stick some new 75W90 in the Diff too.

IIRC 75W-110 is closer to the original 75W-90 spec. Try it and see. Don't overlook prior discussions. Fluids are extremely common topics.

I run Amsoil Severe Gear 75-110 in my 03S and 02Z.

It's good stuff.

Im running Amsoil Severe gear 75-90 only because it was the first option on the amsoil site for this car.

I wonder does it make that much of a difference?
