Default Diff is getting Loud, what are my options?

So with 130k miles on my car and the stock Diff, its getting damn near the time to do something with it. I am wondering is it possible to rebuild one or is the only option replacing it with a brand spanking new one? I do know I want a set of 4.56 gears something BAD, but I am quite sure that just replacing the old gears with that set wont be a proper fix would it or is it? I know Honda was trying to rip my left testicle by trying to charge me 5k for a new diff assembly. What options to I have? And if this is the wrong place to post it in UTH i apologize!

edit: I also have Redline diff fluid that I put in it back in June... with about 2-3k miles on it now... if that.

probably want to start by changing out the old fluid with LE607.

If you are bent on just replacing the pumpkin, then just have Rick's or Hardtopguy build you a 4.57 pumpkin and just swap it out.

Replacing the fluid is a good start if you haven't done that in a while. Otherwise, you can find used stock diff's all the time on this board or buy a complete unit from Rick's or HTG with the 4.56's.

You can pick up a stock used diff for under 1000 bucks (at least i've seen them go that low, for AP1 diffs). Orrrrrr, send your diff into HTG or Ricks for a swap and worse case scenario if its bad you wont get your core deposit back. Regardless it will be around 2k I believe for a diff with 4.56 gears instead of several thousand for a stock one from Honda.

You're going to need to take it apart anyway. Once there, you can check the condition of the gears that are in there now and if they are in good shape, you may simply need to do a re-calibration on them. Replace the seals and bearings while you're at it. If the gears are toast, then get the 4.57s and put them. You've already got the diff's guts hanging out.

What kind of Redline? Shockproof is NOT a good choice for our diffs.

Xviper, its not shockproof that much I know. It was last bottle I had so I cant recall exactly what kind it was... I think it was the standard diff fluid, no frills. How much could I expect to spend on a differential overhaul? I think thatll be the way to go.

If you're not doing any of it. I'm guessing 6 hours labor.
