Diff oil again but in UK
Hi guys
I have been reading so many posts that my head hurts.
I need to ask for a little clarrification. I bought and changed the diff fluid thanks to Xviper's excellent post. The oil I bought is Castrol EPX 80W/90W. It is GL5 but it is mineral based and not a synth. Is this in itself a problem? Link to product:

Secondly I have read many good things about Mobil 1 75W90 but the only one I have found in the UK is MOBILUBE SHC 75W-90 LS. Is this the same one you guys are using? If not what do you think is the difference?

You help is appreciated.

Also the product some of you use states:
Is there any point in having the friction modifiers in a Torsen Diff? I thought they were only needed for clutch type systems. Will they harm the diff in any way?
Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90 contains special friction modifiers designed for limited slip-type differentials. In most applications, the addition of special LS (limited slip) additives is not required.
Any GL5 gear oil will work in our diffs. The only question that remains is whether it is as good or long lasting. Since I would recommend that the diff fluid is changed annually or every 10K miles or so (more if you track the car), I don't think you can go wrong with mineral oil as long as it is of the same rating (GL5).
Friction Modifiers are more for limited slip diffs that have clutch packs. Ours don't have such things so using FM is not needed although having it in there does not harm.
I can't say for sure anything about your LS fluid. Is it also rated as a GL5? Don't use it if it's not. You can also look into Honda motorcycle Hypoid Gear Oil GL5. That's what Honda Canada recommends to their car dealers for use in the S2000.

Thnaks guys. I will stick with the Castrol diff oil for now and change it next with Mobil, Redline or Motul next time. For the GB I will go with Honda MTF. Problem is they don't sell it in litre bottles in the UK so will have to get the dealer to do it for me.
Another update and one more question.
I am currently using Castrol 80W90 mineral diff oil as per the link in my first post. I am now convinced that I want to go for a staright 90 weight and have found three which will do the job.

SILKOLENE BOA 90LS
Please let me know which you think is the best, I am inclined to use the Silkolene product. The question which I have is this, and maybe a stupid one at that. Is there a straight 90W diff oil which is fully synth as all these products are mineral?
Thanks again.

I don't think anyone on this continent has much real world experience with those fluids. You're going to have to go by instinct to make a choice. Whatever you choose, run it for a few thousand miles and get an analysis done to be sure. Keep listening for odd sounds while running this fluid.
thanks bud. Have you ever heard of a fully synth SAE 90 oil? I don't have any issues with any of these oils as they all are Honda Spec but would be nice to know if I can find a fully synth product.
