So you think that spec will be right also for the 4.44 gears?

This guy is advising backlash set to 2,8-3,3mm for a 4,44gear installation...

2.8-3.3 thousandths of an inch. which is .0028"-.0033". It works out to .071mm-.083mm

.09-.11mm would be .0035"-.0043"

I can't speak for the 4.56's but the Richmond Gear 4.57's had the Backlash and Checking Distance (= pinion depth) engraved on the set and the BL was not tighter than OEM.

This is set # 201
Richmond Gear Double Diamond 4.57®
The BL (=backlash) = 0,010" = 0,25mm = dubble OEM spec

Also, measure at 4 positions, 90 degree from eachother (* and write them down)
There is also a minimum and a max difference.
OEM numbers = spec 0,09-0,11mm
Min = 0.05mm
Max difference = 0,07mm

The backlash is within spec as long as: (*)
#1 You're within spec at at least one position = 0,09-0,11mm
#2 Non of the positions are below minimum = 0,05mm
#3 The difference between the 4 positions is not more than 0,07mm

Have fun adjusting

Yes.. it was a little tighter than spec @ 0,19mm but it was impossible to get it right AND keep the pre-load on the Torsen bearings AND get a good contact patch.
This was an it-will-wear-to-spec setting
The diff is running for a 100k km now so I guess it was ok.
