Diff + wheel wobble
Hi.
Differential is on the way out, sounds like stones in a blended. Been told by my pet garage to either repair or replace. Will replace and build the removed one at a later date.
Anyway driving home today, came to a full stop, pulled away, loud clunk from rear and then 1 minute later driver behind becons me to stop.
Told my rear right wheel is wobbling all over the place. Anyway I didn't any of this, check wheel torques, all good, lifted car, no play in wheels so not wheel bearings.
I was wondering could there be a direct link between my knackered diff and the wheel wobble which has never been reported before?
Mike

Your wheel wouldn't wobble from the diff, unless the wheel bearing was also shot. The wheel bearing/hub assy is what supports the wheels integrity. The diff could be missing and have no effect on what the wheels do, other then not drive lol.
Thanks, going to disregard the wheel wobble comment as the car didn't feel odd in the slightest.
If the wheel was wobbling as much as I was told I'm sure the ride would be shite. Again no play in bearing.
Car was recently polybushed, suspension components all in good order

Just out of interest what would actually happen if the diff completely failed during motion, as in the pinion bearing thingy?
Would the prop come loose and bang around or would there just be no drive?

Typically in my experience blowing up two, it just makes a nice crunchy bang and then you coast to the side of the road and don't move anymore lol. With any luck when it happens there is a place to pull over. Both times the diff went when I was hard on the gas.

I was worried the prop would chew up the underside of the car.
New diff enroute.
