Default Differences between AP2 shortblocks?

Whats up guys, time has come to freshen up my engine so I decided to check some pricing online. I had initially thought the 04-05 shortblock and the 06+ shortblock were the same, and the only differences lied in the cylinder heads. Upon looking up pricing on Majestic's site, the newer block is nearly $400 less. What are the differences or the reasons for this?

If there are not any significant differneces, will I have any issues bolting my 04 head on an 06+ block and throwing it in my car?

My understanding was that this wouldn't be an issue but the price difference concerns me.

Anyone care to enlighten me?

Thanks!

You'll need to swap the crank sensor and crank reluctor plate.

So then I guess they are physically the same? I was aware of the difference between the sensors. I just still don't fully get how the same block (different part numbers though) can be such a different price.

Crank trigger wheel, that's it

So if you buy the 06 block, pull the timing cover and change the trigger wheel, you'll save 400 bucks.

Supply/demand is the reason for the cost difference.

Not answering your question at all, but rather got a question for you. Im looking after the fact now, but just got my '07 back with new short block. And since I had 206,860 miles on it, decided to replace clutch, hoses, etc. since the motor was out. Back to the question , can anyone steer me in the right direction as far as reading the date codes or numbers stamped on the block??? Just making sure I got what I paid for. A few suspicious things have come up since getting my car back... Thx...
