Thumbs up Disassembling to get into trunk...

Hey guys,

So, last night I accidently locked my keys in the trunk of my car, while parked in front of my house. The doors are unlocked though, so I can still get into the interior, but the little storage compartment with the trunk release is locked-of course. Is there anyway of getting into the trunk without doing anything with the locks? Can the rear of interior be dissembled to gain access to the trunk? Or maybe there is another way to get into the trunk? I was able to open the secret compartment with an O-ring pick pretty easily, but that doesn't really help anyway.

The reason I don't want to deal with the locks is because the locksmith told me they would have to destroy the lock to open the trunk, which means I'd have to buy a new lock and pay the exorbant bill to the locksmith. Getting a new key isn't easy either because I'm in Canada and the local dealer can't have a key cut because Honda of America won't release the key code to a Canadian dealer.

if i recall correctly, the plastic panels behind the seats cover up small openings that go directly into the trunk. i noticed this while i was running the power wiring for one of my amps. you might be able to pull those plastic trim pieces and fish out the keys that way. id imagine its going to be pretty difficult but doable with some patience.

good luck

The panels go to the area under the rear shelf....not exactly the trunk. So, if you go that way, you still have to figure out how to remove the spare tire cover to get access to the trunk. If the spare is in there, you're really going to have your hands full.

Your arms aren't going to be long enough to reach the actual trunk. Maybe you can snake something in there and fish your keys out, but I doubt you'll be able to see what you're doing. I don't think there's a child safety release inside.

The easiest way in would be to get an electrical manual for the car, and see if you can find where the keyless/alarm system ties into the trunk release. Apply the 12V or ground to the right input, and you can probably pop the trunk.

Remove the vented panels on both sides of the console behind the seats. Remove the center armrest. Undo the two screws under the armrest and on the sides of the console. Gently pry out the console. It will NOT come out because there are screws inside of it, but you should be able to shove your arm behind it and unclip the cable to the trunk release. Jump out the connector and the trunk will pop.

You can either reinstall the cable in the same manner, or open the console to get more screws out. BE CAREFUL. There are VERY sharp edges behind there.

the lock on the center console is pretty useless..

wrap a screwdriver up in a towel so you dont scratch anything and pry the console open.. it'll pop open pretty easily.

get a thick wire, like thicker then a coat hanger (maybe a coat hanger if youre lucky) , and snake it in the console and push the trunk button.

Get a screwdriver + cloth to slightly pry the cover open. It's been done before. Try to do a search in the S2000 Talk forum for it.
