You haven't been flamed. If you would have posted this in the R&C forum you'd have been.

By not being so worried about your skull, expect to be be now.

To the SCCA know it alls (not a bad thing you guys are useful) I dont need to have a rollbar if I plan on competing in some local NASA and SCCA autoxing? Also one other question, If I have racing seats (Sparco Pro 2000) where should I put the harness bar if I do not have a rollbar? Just looking for some useful info, you guys seem to know a lot about the requirements.

Thanks

As mentioned above, an aftermarket roll bar is not required for SCCA autocrossing in an S2000. I didn't know that NASA had an autocrossing program. Are you referring to their HPDE/race program on race tracks? If so, then there is a roll structure requirement that can only be met by a custom fabrication at this time. In the past (and possibly future) a bolt-in roll bar was available for the S2000 (Elda Bar). Bethania Garage (Hard Dog) MAY produce a version of it in the future.

Unfortunately, there is no way to correctly mount a harness in an S2000 without an aftermarket roll structure with harness bar. Since this started as a post about the Cusco cage, that cage does offer a harness bar, even with bosses meant for direct bolt-in mounts. In my Miata, I wrap the shoulder straps around the harness bar:

I think I will just fab a 4 point roll bar with a removable harness bar. I dont know about the whole NASA thing, my uncles and his buddies run some little local thing in Toledo Ohio and the surrounding areas. Do you know of a good design to make a rollbar for the S2000 after? I will have all the appropriate tools, I guess I just need a starting point. ( I was wanting something similar to the red bars in your miata in the pic.

Can't you install some bar pads in the places that are critical to soften the impact if ever? I would think almost any cage is safer than nothing in event of an accident in a VERT.

uber-ghey or whatever it is called, I think the only car it would look good on, or rather not stand out like a sore thumb, is a Laguna.

It's a lot easier to install a roll structure in a Miata than in an S2000. Those that have installed custom roll bars and cages in S2000s have wound up removing and/or cutting a lot of the interior.

Because of the engineering challenges involved, it's probably not a good idea to design a roll structure for the S as your first project. Here are two links to discussions about the Elda Bar, along with some discussion of custom alternatives:
