Default DIY or pay someone?

Im pretty much a basic mechanic. I have done engine swaps in FWDs and many clutch changes on civics and crxs etc. So I have the basic knowledge on how to change out a clutch/flywheel. My buddy said for $350 he would swap it out for me. Worth it or should I go ahead and take the day and do it? Any problems I am going to run into? How hard is it actually
Thanks
TJ

how long does it typicall take to replace clutch/flywheel? depending on your financial situation, $350 might be lot or a little to you. i would just have my friend do it, as you can probably do other/more impt things with your time, imo.

350's a very fair price considering all the work that goes into it. I had only really done fwd clutch's and swaps like yourself before tackling the clutch in the s2k. I did one with my friend first tho so I knew why I was getting into. Expect for it to take you a full weekend if it's the first time you've done it. Also, print the write up for it and read it start to finish before you pick up a tool.

I did my first clutch install on the ground in 7 hours. The second install took me 4 hours with a lift. Now I can do it in around 3 with a lift. It really is not that hard, there are alot of little tricks that take a while the first time you do it. I would not let anyone else do my clutch in my car. If I do it myself I know ever bolt went back in the correct spot and is torqued down just right.

I have done more than one S2000 clutch and (without a lift or air tools) could not be done in less than eight hours. And if I take the extra time to cleanup the bell housing and replace the FW it is gonna be over 10. With air tools and a lift I can see it done in 4 if you have experience but most home mechanics don't.

Would not give the job to an individual to do one for the first time unless you have tremendous faith in him to take the time to do it right.

Plenty on potential problems discussed here

I did it in ~6-7 hours using a lift and air tools, was just changing out the clutch though, and that was with help, transmission is pretty heavy, lol...

I did my clutch for the first time in 12 hours (2 days of 6 each) with the car on just 2 front jackstands and no help. I did use an electric impact tool though.
