Someone posted in another thread a pic of the removal from the helms manual that I used before. It was pretty simple.. it just comes out. Just gotta be sure to use the pin correctly when installing.

there is no timing belt, f20 and f22's are run by a chain.

^^ Yea, but there is a timing chain tensioner that eventually wears out.

We recently replaced the tensioner on a customers car, and several S2kI members have had to replace their tensioners, but if there is a pattern to the replacements I'm not aware of it. Mine is still OK after a little over 50k miles.

Ahh, screw it... I could link to 50+ threads on Timing Chain Tensioner issues.

To the OP, do a search on "timing chain tensioner". I'm pretty sure you'll find a DIY in there somewhere. It's not difficult, but you have to make sure that you retract the piston in the old tensioner before removing it. Other than that, it's just a matter of removing about 3 bolts.

Then you bolt the new one in, and pull the pin through the maintenance hole.

Just get a copy of the manual. The replacement's butt simple. 3 bolts and a plug. DON'T pull the pin until it's bolted together. If it comes apart early (which'll only happen if you screw up), you must follow procedure for putting the tensioner back into install state or you'll snap the chain.
