Default Do we have two air pumps?

Gang,
Thanks for a quick reply. Wrecked my S2K on a wet road into a ditch. Damaged left front in. Everything is almost repaired, but had the CEL issue about the time the car was supposed to be ready. Honda service said it was the "new air pump" had a grounding issue, they thought, and fixed it. The CEL happened almost immediately upon returning to the body shop. Honda service now has said it's "the secondary air pump" requiring another $700+ air pump and $200+ labor install.

I didn't realize we had one air pump until checking with Xviper. Now I'm finding out that we also have a secondary one? And both had to be replaced...the secondary one is supposedly located on the left front side, near the first point of impact.

Does this sound true?

In essence, we do have 2 air pumps. The first one is the engine.
But we actually only have one "auxillary" airpump and it's called a secondary one.

as far as I know AP1, at least, has 1 air pump for secondary air injection system. air pump from dealer costs about $450. however, there are relay that also need to be replaced if you were hit on front driver side. it's about $90.

I have had this issue for 3 yrs now... I recently started to understand how it works. so first, check fuse. it's in fuse box on driver side. that's easiest place to check. otherwise it's going to get more painful... btw, what is the code? P0410? if it is, it's an electrical problem.

Just to clarify, "the air pump" that they tried to fix is also "the secondary air pump" that they are now wanting to replace.

List price on the airpump and associated brackets is about $700. You can get them for less, though. http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/j...tcgry5=AIR+PUMP

chandler, Take it back to the body shop. It's accident related. I wouldn't pay to get it fixed, it should be covered by the insurance.

There is only 1 electric air pump, it's part of the Secondary Air injection system. Either the wiring to the pump got smashed in the accident, the pump itself is smashed, or they messed up the line routing.

What DTC was set?

Just pulled my front clip to be re-painted. Forward of the left front wheel well is an air-pump. Sits about 6 inches aove the ground, just behind the fake brake vent. Surpised the heck out of me.

Thanks again for the help everyone. Matter is cleared up. Here's the summary:

The 'first time' I got the CEL and they told me there was an issue with the air pump, they didn't replace it, just thought the wiring/relay was wrong and tried to correct it. Now they've replaced the air pump and it supposedly fixed the issue...we'll know soon. I was trying to make sure -- before talking with them -- that we didn't have two air pumps so I could 'argue' intelligently if needed. Turns out it wasn't, since they've only bought one new air pump (now).

(Slows2k, this is being covered by my insurance...but the grand total is getting 'close' to total price -- 75% of the value supposedly. To date, it's rung up over $17K in mostly cosmetics.)
