Default Does the Comptech intake ACTUALLY fit most S2K's?

I was just sitting here and pondering. One (well, actually two) of my friends have 2002's and they both tried the Comptech intake. There were serious fitment problems resulting from the hood prop, and severe vibration under load. They have both sworn off the intake, opting for the Mugen and Spoon instead.

I, however, am still a big fan of that particular intake. I see the virtues afforded by a setup that manages to look cool, make pretty decent power gains, draw-in cold air, and remain resistant to external water. It also helps the price is far more reasonable than the two intakes I mentioned earlier. I am aware that because of the fitment problems described above, Comptech went back to the drawing board and re-shaped the intake box. My question to the forum is this- were they successful? I have only seen one install posted on the site, and it seemed to work out fine. I know there are still problems with the hood prop rubbing the top of the lid, but that appears to be solved by simply sliding the foam piece on the prop up to prevent any marking. To anyone with experience with this situation, have they resolved all the irritating issues (vibration, fitment, etc.) or is it the same old ? Like I said before, I'm a really big fan of this intake, and would like to buy it, but only if it's actually going to work. I welcome details related to your (or a friend's for that matter) install and impressions; good and bad will be greatly appreciated.

Ugghh.....mod decision hell already

I have the Comptech SC with the same air box. And yes it's a pain. The CF is all marked from the hood and the hood prop doesn't clip into it's clip. It just sits on top.

I too would be interested if the new design is better. I know they have made a new lid with a slot in it for the prop and I keep hearing they have reshaped the air box.

Check out Modifry's web site. He 'chop topped' the box to lower it a bit.

I don't know which version of the CT I had, but I had no vibration or noise issues. But the prop rod fit and the hood rub issues were present.

I also thought the way the filter attached to the elbow which attached to the airbox was kind of - well - different.

The New Systems I have been selling on my GB for $315 have no issues with rubbing. The new box is a little shorter which solves the rubbing issue. (800)59TECH2

That's what I thought, Drew. I suppose if you are selling them and you haven't yet heard of anyone complaining, they must have done something right. Bump for a great groupbuy price, too! I may have to take you up on that offer if it is still ongoing.

P.S. - Nice avatar...that's your girlfriend/wife?

I am one of the guys he's talking about. My roommate is the other. He tried both airboxes, the original being mine. The "new and improved" airbox definitely didn't make a damn bit of difference.
Sorry, Clayman...get something else.

P.S. When are you coming down?

I do not believe I sold you a Comptech Icebox. I have had no complaints about the new Icebox

Drew- You sold him the box that was supposed to be cut lower, or shorter, on one side. I don't believe it was called an Icebox, though. He got it this past summer, I believe. We compared the two side by side, and there was a differnce in size, but it still rubbed like crazy. Hence, the reason he sold it.

I should note that we have had other products from Comptech on other cars as well as the S's, and they have been superb.

I just installed a "new" version about a week ago (on a freinds car) and held it up to my Comptech (mine was one of the first ones off the line so mine has a few rub marks and the hood prop problem.) and it looked a little lower but it still hit his hood a little and the hood prop hole will need to be fixed and dremeled out. The only big difference in the 2 setups that I saw was that Comptech is using a bigger weave in the carbon fiber box cover.
