Default Does horn not work without the SRS reel?

Hey guys,

Does the horn on the OEM wheel not work if you do not have the SRS reel installed? I bought my car used and the PO had an aftermarket wheel installed, but threw the OEM set up on before selling. However, I remember it being mentioned that the SRS reel was messed up/missing (SRS light is on). 6 months after ownership, I installed a MOMO wheel and hub etc. and never had the horn working. Yesterday, I just threw the OEM wheel back on and am not able to get the horn to work. I do not have an SRS Reel in place (looking to buy a used one).

My question is, does the horn 100% not work without the SRS reel? I am confused because I was certain that my horn worked before I installed the MOMO wheel, but now I am confused and probably mistaken.

Thanks!

The reel also has two wires that need to be connected for the horn to work. Maybe you can find a way to get around that, but better buy a srs reel just in case - because if you don't have it installed, the steering wheel sits lower and touches the plastic behind the wheel. They are pretty cheap too.

Thanks for the response. Ordered a used reel, should receive it tomorrow and have my steering wheel all back to OEM

Reinstalled the replacement SRS reel with no luck. Reinstalled everything ~3 times, checking all connections. Replaced the SRS fuse, tried resetting the srs light (which quickly comes back on after the reset) etc. Horn still doesn't work, and cruise control doesn't work either. Thinking the SRS reel replacement was faulty (used part). Going to try getting another SRS reel and hopefully it will work.

I think it's faulty. Check that the reel and wires have continuity aka not separated before buying another
