don't think a water spray into the cooling system would do anything since the temp is so hot.. you'd have to spray a lot and then you would dilute the coolant and possible overfill the system over time.

I have seen water spray on an intercooler have some positive effects. You would not see any positive effects from putting this on your radiator though. Your radiator tries to keep the engine at a constant temperature and does not always want to be as cold as possible.

Someone else can give a more detailed explanation about expansion and temperatures in the engine as I feel I would trip over my words on that one.

Wouldn't there be a positive effect if your engine was overheating?

If you want the effect of cooler air (condensed air) for HP gains just install NOS. That's basically the principal behind using NOS for serious HP gains. Probably the most bang for the buck.

If your engine is overheating, fix the real problem, and the issue is moot.

edit: if you run your car hard for extended periods and are afraid the stock cooling system can't handle the load, then your solution is an oil cooler, larger radiator, new themostat, etc.. not water injection.

This would actually work like a cold air intake, just more expensive and more restrictive.

When people mention 'spraying water' ON the radiator/intercooler, they literally mean ON it, not IN it. Spraying IN it would be seriously retarded.

And yes it does help with cooling a bit. When water evaporates it transfers colder temps to the intercooler it was on. I remember a factory turbocharged car that actually had that built in (STi I think).

I think he'd meant to have it work like this air intake here- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CIVIC-96-98...sspagenameZWDVW
Am I right?

yes spraying in an intercooler wouldn't be a good idea. The purpose of water/alcohol injection systems are to lower the intake temp to prevent detonation, and is sprayed into the system before the turbo. With an intercooler, the water will condense in the intercooler. Water spray systems with an intercooler are sprayed ON the intercooler.
