Default DRL problem HID's on all the time!

Hey everyone,

new owner of a MY04 suzuka blue s2000.

The DRL's were activated (former US car now in Canada) to meet our standards, however, the DRL's arent the 1/2 power High beams, they actaully trigger the HID's to turn on. They go off/on according to whether or not the ebrake is up or down. E-brake engaged=HID's off and vice versa. Does anyone know where i should start looking for wires/fuses so that i can disconnect this feature? I really don't want to run through lightbulbs faster than i do gas....

Do you have the owner's manual? You should start with the maintenance checklist in the back.

yes i do,

my friend works at honda and has some free time with the lift next wednesday. He's a lube tech there so i guess that problem is solved and i'll be able to do the whole checklist.

Anyone know about the DRL issue?

The only concern I would have with the HIDs as being the DRLs is shortening their lifespan. Remember, there not that cheap to change on a yearly or bi-yearly time frame. The bulbs themselves are at least a good $100. If you go through the dealer, it would cost you even more. If that isn't a concern, then it is okay.

As far as the maintenance goes, I would go ahead and change all the fluids just for my piece of mind. This way, I know what kind of fluids are in there and I know exactly when it was changed. I would do the diff, trans, clutch, oil, and brake fluids. Check your air filter and cabin filter if it needs changing as well.

Hope that helps.

yeah, i'll definately have to look more into changing the system for the DRL's using the HID's. I'll be sure to change all the fluids though, just wanted to make sure i wasn't crazy for wanting to do so!

Anyone else have any idea how to rid the car of using HID's as the DRL's?

I bought my 04 berlina black s2k with the exact amount of miles on mine also. and I've already changed everything i needed to recently. You are right about the engine oil and the rear diff fluid. One more thing you need to change is the air filter. thats all you need to do before you get to 30k.

I recommend to get a K&N air filter if you can. or just go with an OEM air filter if thats all you can get. you'll notice that if they haven't changed the air filter yet it is very dirty.

well, to my great surprise i looked at the air filter yesterday and it turns out its already got the K&N drop in cone filter! Still looks good to go. Also looks like theres an underbrace as well, but couldnt tell what brand/style it is. Either way, some cool new findings on the ride!

I imported my MY01 from the USA as well. I know that HID lights are more prone to cyclical breakdown than running time issues. I hook my DTRLs for inspections and remove the fuse after.

i would just change the engine oil and diff fluid. no need to do the tranny oil becuase its still very clean with that many miles on it i already checked mine and its clean. the manual says to changed tranny at 50k or 60k i forgot. so just the 2 fluids and your set.
