Dropped valves
 

Last Saturday night, after having the car for only a few days, I was having a little fun and miss shifted from 3rd to 2nd and over revved bad. The car died and white smoke was coming out of the exhaust pipes :(

I had a couple friend's tow me home and look at it, we still haven't got the head off yet but we're close. My luck has been pretty bad with all my cars in the past year. I really am hoping I don't need a whole new engine, this is a bad time for me, because I am in the middle of buying my first home with my fiancée. So far I know that I broke a rocker arm, valve retainer and dropped valves I believe. Just going off what my friend told me. This really sucks but I know it could be worse

Yea, hopefully you can source a reasonably priced used engine...dropped valve means game over for your engine basically.

It's a 2002, and I still haven't got the head off to look. Unfortunately I have to wait for a friend to come help, we mostly just gotta take the bottom bolts of the intake manifold off now. I should have an update in the next day or two..

You prolly could see some bad issues, with just the valve cover off. Use boroscope down spark plug holes to look for damage on piston heads and cylinder walls.

Ugh, yeah new engine time :(. Did you actually drop a valve (i.e the retainer let go) or did you just float that valve into the piston? Typically retainers just don't let go instantaneously although it looks like you had one heck of an overrev!
