Default early vtec

i read about all these chips that make vtc engage earlier (i know that mugen has one). Should i get one of these chips, or should i just go for the vafc? Whats the ups and downs on both, and which one is better for the car.
thanks!

Mugen ECU doesn't change the VTEC point.
It still retains factory setting at 6Krpm.
Other ECU service that allow you to change VTEC engagement are available in Japan only.
Also there are several promising and budget priced piggyback programmable unit but sadly S2000 application isn't available yet

However if your primary goal is to fool with VTEC engagement, look no further than either VAFC or Jackson Racing's VPAC.
I have sort of experience with VPAC.
Everything went well but my mechanic forgot to wire the VTEC solenoid wire
. It felt good pre-VTEC but as soon as it hit the pre-set engagement point I didn't feel the VTEC kick in. So with some investigation of my own I found that the VTEC solenoid wire is just dangling without connected to VPAC.
It was right before my upboosted supercharger dyno day so I ended up yanking the unit out temporarily. Since then I have some other issues with my car so I still have VPAC unit stored away but as soon as I have free time I will experiment.
If you are strictly NA then VTEC should never be under 4K rpm but you should be fine with between 5-6K rpm point. Jackson's VPAC allows you to control the point from 2.5-6Krpm by the way.
