I wonder if the Apexi RSM is reading higher because IT is getting a better ground to the alternator...

Well, just for shits and giggles, i think i am going to test one of these so called GROUND units.

One of my suppliers keeps telling me that they do help so i guess it cant hurt. They retail for under 100 bux and since im going to dyno and retune my car when my new Ti exhaust is here, i ll try one of these things out too.

I ll keep you guys posted

actually. a local australian magazine did dyno tests on these supposed ground units - and there was a definite measureable increase in HP in that particular car -

Mind you, it was cheaper for them to make their own grounding kit up -

Will see if article is around teh place

I'm right there with MacGyver on this one.

Before you waste money on a ground kit, take your voltmeter and measure the difference between the (-) battery terminal and the engine block or chassis(car running, of course). If there's no measurable difference, there's no reason to upgrade the ground.

Or, just for kicks, set the meter to test for continuity, and observe that the engine is shorted directly to the negative battery terminal. The only way to improve the ground is to lower the resistance of the wire connecting them. This is typically accomplished by moving to a larger guage/ higher stranded wire.

I tell you what, I have 20ft of 4 guage power wire laying around from a previous stereo install. I think I"m going to cut it up and start a group buy! Backyard ground upgrade, gives 20hp, only $50. Only available to the first 20. PM now!!

As for the butt dyno comments, I've noticed that my car always seems to feel stronger right after I finish detailing it.

Please take my comments here lightly, as I certainly don't mean to offend anyone!!!

doc,

If you aboslutely MUST find out for yourself how worthless this is, please don't install the exhaust, retune, THEN tell us how much power you gained. Also, don't forget to spend a day or two driving after you'vedisconnected the ECU to let it relearn again...not a fair comparison if you dyno, install a new ground, then immediately redyno again.

Yeah, what is the proper order for checking it then? Obviously, i m not looking to play any sort of bias into this.

I never pulled my ECU fuse when i installed and tuned my VAFC. UL did everything and i KNOW that he knows what he is doing.

There isn't any reason to reset the ECU. Adding additional grounding is no reason to disconnect the battery, or pull any fuses.
