Define 'best'.

Most possible power? Not sure, maybe AEM EMS or Hondata if it comes out.
Most tuneable to support other mods? Same as above.
Easiest to set up with some gains? Probably one of the three 'preset' ones you named.
Least expensive with some tuneability and some gains? Apex'i VAFC.

Most reliable? OEM.
Least likely to blow up your engine? OEM.
Most daily drivable? OEM.

I'm sure others with more experience and knowledge will chime in, but keep in mind what your goals are and what you'll have to give up to get there.

Actually, I think all aftermarket ECU's would make it more "daily driveable", since they can (and usually do) tune in some midrange gains, making the car more driveable on the street.

Other than that, with the Hondata not appearing to be near, I would say the AEM is the best so far, if you can get it running. I have heard of a few others that I don't know anything about, and a few others I know are popular with other cars (Motec, etc.)

I do agree with Ted's questions though.

If you want something plug n play and don't have to worry about tuning then Spoon or Mugen will do the job. If you decide to get some crazy mods like cams , higher compression well something like AEM will be your best bet.

If you want to do a bit of tuning so VAFC (less tunabilty) , Greddy E-Manage or Buddyclub Racing Spec Computer offers much bigger tunability. Prices are reasonable too.

Note that the Mugen ECU is developed for N1 (Endurance) specifications which complies to 11.7CR stock internals & header as well as intake.

Amuse and Spoon are very good, some power gain, how much power gain I don't know. One thing, when you run Spoon ECU your check engine light will come on.
I'm not sure that's a problem or not, because you'll running in safe mode if your engine light comes up, and your engine will loss power. not 100% sure but, you should check on that before you buy any ECU. most JDM ECU like spoon ect. cost around $1000.
