Default Emissions Test HELP!

Hey guys I really need your help or my dads going to sell the car! So today I took it into an Emissions test and the car failed! I don't why but the codes on the sheet tell me why. I have an invidia q300 exhaust and a AEM V2 cold air intake and that's how I bought it. Have had it only for a week. The engine light is constantly on but they said its because of the cold air intake. Do you I have to put on a stock exhaust to pass the test? HELP

stating what state you are at will help. Also year of your car

AEM V2 intake is a carb legal intake. As long as it is installed correctly, it should not throw a cel. Download their instructions and double check the vacuum lines are correct.

Exhaust will not affect emissions at all. Only if the Catalytic converter has been removed/modified.

Lastly have your OBC scanned so you know what your CEL codes are. From that you should have an idea of where the problem(s) are.

In CA the seller is responsible for smog for reasons like this. Good luck

Are you sure the previous owner didn't remove the cat and install a test pipe?

I agree that you need to check your codes. The mods you mention won't throw a code. It could be something like a bad O2 sensor.

You bought a car with a CEL on and didn't find out the code?

As mentioned, neither mod should throw a code when properly installed. Other than a test pipe, it's possible they didn't install the check valve properly or the intake isn't properly connected to vacuum hoses. CEL on is instant fail in most states, don't even try going until it's fixed. You can't just reset the ECU either, it takes a certain number of conditions to be met before the readiness monitors will be set.

What they said^
Go to any autoparts store, have them scan it. Write down the codes so you dont forget.
Could be something simple or severe.

I believe in CA you aren't allowed to borrow a scanner anymore. You have to purchase it and are not allowed to return it. I believe this started in 2010, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

If you are in CA, you no longer can borrow the check engine light tool... They claim it takes business's away from shop owners.

I ended up buying the Bluetooth OBD2 scanner and installing the Torque pro app... Total cost was $30 and am extremely pleased.

There is no way to know what's wrong without code readout and smog numbers .. If in CA - which of the 3 pollutants failed, at which speeds and by how much

You have only had the car for a week or the intake? Sounds like intake vacuum lines are off. If you just bought the car from dealer just take it back to them and tell them to deal with it. Make sure the cat is on and o2 sensor is on. If cel is on smog guy will not run test fails visual. I suspect a line is off your intake something simple.

Alright so I live in Wisconsin and I didn't even know this but King Motorsport is the only authorized Mugen distributor in the US. (jaw dropper) (no joke) and I took it to them and they fixed it so the problem was that it was the vacuum hoses like that one genius guy said and the air pump. The guy said sometimes it goes on when the car turns on, like its suppose to and other times it doesn't so they fixed it! So thanks everyone for the advice. This forum saves my life!
