Take offs are not like at Pomona drag strip. Salt has traction similar to wet asphalt (think 200mph on a rain slick street) so you don't hit full throttle until about the middle of 2nd gear. The car has a 24" tall rear tire and a 2.56 rear end so is not a drag racer, although the computer indicates at a sea level drag strip it should run about a 12.45 quarter at around 124 mph.

Acceleration curve on the salt was about 0-100 . 2 mi., about 11 secs. 150 .6 mi, about 23 secs. 200 1.6 mi, about 43 secs., 225 about 2.5 mi. about one minute, 250 about 4.2 mi., about 84 seconds. 258 5 mi. about 96 seconds.

At the end you're doing 1/4 mi. in 3.5 seconds.

Keep the shiny side up.

Jim

I would find a different place to do the valves. The guys who put your engine together obviously missed this for whatever reason. They may not do any better with a second chance.
I did my hardtop install in less than 3 hours by myself and I had never done it before. They should be able to do it faster. It might be time to count your blessings that they gave you a new engine and look elsewhere for these other things.

Hey all, good news, Honda bought me a brand new engine. Just got the car back today. I'm a little concerned since i don't believe the mechanics at the dealership are as good as the ones who put my car together, but then again, i dont have a choice on who puts it together. I got the car back and there is a ticking noise that really gets on my nerves. It sounds like lifters, but I dont believe the s2000 has lifters. It's a ticking sound and its driving me mad. I have only driven the new engine for about 40 miles or so and i'm thinking maybe its just because its new? I have no clue. ANy input?
Congradulations on your new engine. The rocker arms on a overhead cam engine run directly off the cam lobes. No matter what you do, there will be some rocker noise. As was already mentioned, check the oil, and if the noise is excessive, they need to be adjusted. peace out

maybe they followed the routine of adjusting the valves by which other hondas follow which is different from the s2k? xviper, these motors tend to have a little valve noise even if they are properly adjusted right? but it shouldnt be TOO loud of ticking, or how would you describe it?

what about if you are driving next to a curb with the windows opened, should you be able to hear the valves at all or not?

No, you should not hear your valves in that scenario. The tire/road noise, the exhaust noise, the wind noise bounce back should hide any valve train noise. If you hear it, something is not right. Abnormal valve noise is very clear and distinct and you can hear it with the hood open, engine running, with you standing near the engine. If you cannot hear it this way and can hear a ticking while driving next to a high wall, look for a rock or nail in your tire instead.

On the other hand, you can hear ticking standing in front of the car with the hood open. This is normal, in fact, you might even hear a faint sound coming from the rocker cover sitting inside the car(stopped that is). This is normal for a overhead cam engine. Like xviper says, you should not hear this while driving.

like I mentioned earlier, the rockers run directly off the cam lobes. Your gonna have some sound out of the rocker cover. If you think the valve lash is to great, the only way to tell is to take the cover off and check it. Good luck, later

I havn't read everything here, but a minor over rev... 9500RPMS won't cause that much damge, or even fatiuge it that much. When honda built the car, they designed it with a margin for error... I've miss shifted from 5 to 4..... and the apexi RSM said i logged 10347RPMS..... of course it happened in a splt second at which point i pressed the clutch and it was over. No damage at all, no long term effects as of yet... and that was 15000 miles ago, 27000 on the car. Your situation sounds very interesting.

Brandon

Edit: Read the whole thing now... congrats on the new engine
