Default Engine died while cruising

Well tonight after filling up my gas (93 at citgo) i headed out to visit some friends. I was cruising the entire way and enjoying the nice weather in the back roads when about 7 miles down, my car stalled suddenly while I was coming to a stop sign. I waited about 10 seconds and started the car and it stumbled a bit but started. I knew something was wrong immediately, but being in a two lane road I really had no place to stop.

So I continued on trying to get to the only gas station around, about 5 miles away, when my car stalled again while i was cruising about 45. I stopped in the middle of the road and the car just wouldnt fire up. It turns over but just doesnt want to catch. I ended up getting help from some guys to push it up a hill into a driveway and waited for the tow truck.

I got home and pulled the code and got 8 short blinks, which is TDC sensor 1. I looked at both sensors and theyre both connected. I'm not sure what else I should check. Would it be possible the timing chain jumped a tooth or could i have put bad gas in some freaky way?

Only good part of the night was when the tow truck was writing my info down and he goes:

"Whats the model, BMW what?"
"Umm.....its a Honda"
"THATS a HONDA!?!? I thought it was a BMW"

citgo gas is never a good idea, but I doubt it could be the cause, who knows

It's highly unlikely the timing chain "jumped". It's possible the TDC sensor has gone bad, or the wiring between the PCM and sensor. You really need to take it to a shop to have it diagnosed.

Is the sensor something i can buy by itself? I've been trying to find the part number for it but havent had any luck.

Checked the code again and got both code 8 and 58; TDC1 and TDC2 Sensor.

Can these two sensors just break out of no where? If so, they arent allowing the car to get spark, correct?

You're really limiting yourself with that blinky crap

go buy a cheap code reader and post something to talk about, then we'll steer you right.

I don't recall anyone ever having a cam sensor issue, let alone both at once.

Just for the hell of it, make sure the front hex bolt on the front of the head is not walking loose. The one right in the middle.

well took the car to the dealership and they told me the cam sprocket bolts came loose and the timing chain did jump which caused improper timing. the bolts, apparently, got shreded and now theres metal shreds in the motor which need to be cleaned out.

theyre also saying i or someone have been tampering with the motor because he's never seen a honda motor do that...

so the sprocket and bolts are 170 and to drop the oil pan and clean the metal shreds is about another 350

and of course the great warranty i purchased along with the car wont cover any of it due to my 'aftermarket parts' that would cause any type of problems with the bolts coming 'loose'

Heh, ya well when I put on my sc I did full well knowing that I'd never ever be able to use honda warranty or any type of warranty ever again.

-mechanic: "yeah man theyre not gonna cover you, i can gaurantee you that. You're wheels, rotors, and cold air induction system can cause problems"

Ive been searching and i cant find anyone on s2ki with the same problems...guess I'M just THAT lucky

well i got the car back today and dropped the oil pan and saw a BUNCH of metal shavings in the oil pan as well as the sump...good thing the sump had a mesh cover...

has anyone had this happen to them? i cleaned everything out and will be getting a magnetic drain bolt tomorrow for the whatever shaving is left and i'll probobly take the valve cover off tomorrow and try to see if theres anything in there (the mechanic said they cleaned the head off with an air compressor) just in case they missed some...anything else i should look for? the cylinders looked clean from what i could see...

I've been around here a while and never heard of anyone having that type of issue. I believe them that someone may have done some engine work before.

Wheels/rotors/intake did not cause anything, but they will say ANYTHING to avoid the warr work. Anybody with an s2k should not even bother with a warranty.
