If I do have to get a new engine, would it be better to get the 2.2L block. Would this be a direct swap? Will the wiring harness, etc. match up?

 

you will need to pull off the head firstly to inspect the bores.

i'm so sorry to hear that this has happened to you. i remember when it happened to me and i found out what the damage was and i only had the car 3 weeks i almost cried because the repairs were going to be around 8-9K and i paid top dollar for my car.

Yes depending it could be a rod knock, i think you might have the same as me which is piston slap in cyl 4.

well if the oil was between half and full then it wasn't dangerously low although could of taken a top up. A well maintained s2k has its oil checked every week and topped up accordlingly. I think in the past oil starvation has contributed to the problem and the roughed up bore has been scored heaps if you just bought it and ripped it real hard.

I dont think the 2.2 ltr option will be a good one because you will probably need to change ECU and some other crap, dash instrument cluster because the 2.2 doesn't rev to 9k.

I was going to see what the car would top out at. This was like 2a.m. there weren't any cars on the highway. I was pushing the car, but I would shift at 8,300rpm. It should not have broken.

 

depending on the damage on the bore you might need to replace the shortblock anyway even if your going to go with the forgies.
