Hi,

Well the figures does not say a lot, and I also believe that the users on this forum is not representative for all owners of these cars. Since users here might, be harder on their cars, compared to non forum users.

In regards to resale value, I don't think this or any other thread on this forum can affect that . If a potential buyer is concerned about that, I don't think he would buy this car after all.

Best regards
SUN

If I went to a Mustang forum, I might think it's cool to vote that my engine blew up.

We need polls that only allow owners to participate in.

Well, so far, about 1 in 10 hondas will completely lose their engine, and another 1 in 8 or so will have engine problems.

That means about 1 in 4 or so Honda S2000s will develop engine problems according to this poll. I think with statistics like that, Honda should issue a general recall!

Next time you're at HSCC, ask everyone who has had engine problems. It ain't going to be 1 in 4, even given the fact that HSCC members would be guaranteed to be a lot harder on the car than the average driver.

Even though you are being sarcastic, I honestly think that they should or at least replace the faulty parts as in the case of the European oil bolt recall.

The fact that HSCC members drive their car harder than an average owner is completely irrelevant. There is a legal concept called implied warranty. Although it is not stated in the owners manual it is commmonly accepted fact that sports car should b built to handle being driven harder.

I wonder what proportion of F20C's will reach 100,000 kms or 62k miles.

I think it will be unacceptably low.

IMHO one should not confuse service with product. Just because you were badly serviced it's no reason to bash around indiscriminately.

Frankly, anyway you look at it, this poll stands shoulder to shoulder with fecal matter in the usefulness scale.

If you are not convinced try another poll. Ask people whether they had more/less engine problems with this car than other cars they may have owned. And be surprised at the results.

Luis - who had 2 catastrophic engine failures with previous cars but has so far enjoyed a problem free F20C

I am not bashing the product. I most definitely am bashing the service.

However, there is no denying that pre 2003 F20C have a defect (oil bolts) which the Honda branches in most countries are refusing to address. I also have a sneaking suspicion that certain production runs of engines have far more serious problems.

I still love the car but have lost all faith in Honda Australia's ability to service their product.

if the failure rate was anywhere near what this poll indicates, honda would have one of the worst p.r. disaster in automotive history on their hands, and would probably have recalled every s2k.

my guess is the actual failure rate is more like 1/100 or 1/500 than 1/10. it's abnormally high because the kind of people who frequent these sites (present company included) are more likely to blow their motors, and of the people whose motor's DON'T blow, 90% will never click on the poll (or visit this site.) on the other hand, if you've toasted a motor, your almost certainly going to vote.
