Default Engine keeps bogging and loses power

OK i did a search and looked around. i read about the MAP whack and i tried that to no success. here's my problem... around 3000-5000 rpm the car just seems to lose power and feels like it is bogging. feels like it doesnt go anywhere then it kinda frees up after that. i can still hear vtec engage after 6000 rpm but it still feels a little slower but that could just be my mind playing tricks on me. ne ways i just wondering what things to check and/or replace. i was thinking maybe the fuel filter, do a tune up, or replace the MAP sensor.

thanks for you help

^ could be it, how many miles on the car? when my clutch went out it felt like the car pulled harder when it was not in vtec than when it was 3000 is a little low though.

Are you getting on it before it gets to three bars? Have you done a leakdown or compression test on it?

You might want to try using some fuel injector cleaner. Chevron Techron come to mind and has been discussed in the past, but there are many others.

Also, check your spark plugs and see how they look.

possibly clogged catalytic convertor, and have fun changing the fuel filter. its actually a sock type filter on the end of the fuel pickup on the bottom of the fuel pump

Fuel filter has been one of the very not common causes of this.

What year is your car and how many miles?

Any modifications?

There are a few things to clean before replacing a fuel filter:
Check plugs, MAP whack, clean throttle bodies, injector cleaner.

Other uncommon things, but still more common than fuel filter: Malfunctioning injectors, damaged knock sensor.

i have 100K miles on it and i dont have any modifications.

also i never rev the motor before it hits 3 bars and it happens at 3-5 rpm not while in vtec.

i dunno if this has anything to do with it but a month or two ago i replaced the air filter and i forgot to put the air box cover on it so the filter is exposed. never could find the cover again.

but i'll try the injection cleaner and stuff and let you guys know
