OK not to sound stupid, but does it sound like crickets, tapping, or a deeper sound than that?

I am curious as to the outcome myself.

Hmm, i would have to argue with you on that. 5w30 motor oils burns up a lot faster than 10w30. The CA Honda Rep from LA told me never to put anything but 10W30.-VTEC'ing the S will burn 5W30 so fast it is unbelievable!

I listened to the marketing drivvle also, until proven otherwise. If they are the same (my experience tells me that they are not) why did Honda put an overlay page in my owner's manual telling me to use 10W30? The old page recommended 5W30. I have used 5W30 in several new cars, but it always disappears much faster than 10W30 does. The ONLY exception to this, in my experience, is my wife's MY2001 Odyssey.

I tend to read everything that I can get my hands on, but I believe my own experiences before I believe something written in an article/book.

Okay, since posting this question, I have driven 4 different S2000's with varing miles on the ticker. Everyone of them did the same thing, so I am not going to worry about it. I would still like to know what it is, but I am guessing that the noise is normal and I am reading to much into it.

As for Wes's comment about taking it to a professional, I would agree. I am the type of person that likes to know what is wrong with it before I take it to the shop or fix it myself. I personally ask a lot of "what do I do" questions to see if someone else has experienced it themselves. If I broke an axle or rearend, I would be asking you what you did with yours to correct it.

I was at the Honda dealership today and I saw the flowchart with the reccomended oil weight.....10W30 was what it said.

Thanks for the help

Chip
