A flashing check engine lamp means "severe misfiring".

This would normally mean that unburnt fuel can get into the catalyst rendering it useless within a very short time span (because the fuel will ignite in the catalyst raising the temperature so high the catalyst will basically 'melt').

Another possibility (and this has happened to me in person) is that a fuel injector is clogged, so that there is no fuel to be ignited in that cylinder. The on-board diagnostic system cannot distinguish that there is no 'real' misfiring and will also cause the lamp to flash.

To check if you have a clogged injector, put the tip of a screwdriver on the injector, and put your ear onto the handle. If you hear a clicking sound, the injector is working, if you don't it is likely to be clogged. Adding a strong injector cleaner to the fuel, running the engine and lightly tapping the stuck injector with the screwdriver to get it going again should to the trick.

yeah that's because the links tells you we CANT fix your friggin problem because WE DONT KNOW THE CODE. you need to READ my friend. if you had, you'd have seen the very important information in that thread.

Also, you missed THE MOST IMPORTANT part of that thread/link. that is,

IF YOU HAVE A FLASHING CEL DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR AS THIS MEANS IT COULD CAUSE VERY SERIOUS DAMAGE!!!!!!

you have NO choice at this point but to HAVE THE CAR TOWED to a dealership.

Everyone else who is telling you injectors and whatever, while their intentions are good, are not going to help. And at this point, guesses do you no good. We don't have a code, so we can't tell you what it could be. there are a thousand different things that can cause this, and without the codes, anyone who tells you what to try to do to fix it is no more than a wild goose chase guess.

again, you have a flashing CEL. even your owner's manual says at that point to pull over and turn the car off. do not drive the car. get it towed to the dealership. there is nothing more that anyone on this forum can tell you other than what me and SlowS2k have said.

Maybe it is time for a soothing holiday?

Anyway, I assume the code is:

At least, that is what I READ in his original post.

So b18c1eg2, take a stab at what I pointed out above and ignore the shouting for the time being.

It only takes a few seconds of running at idle to figure out if all injectors are working or not. Just do it very quickly. There won't be enough time to do any harm than.

Good luck,

Siepel

PS: I'm disappointed about the mindless shouting "have it towed to the dealer" instead of some constructive advice.

That's all great and hunky dory, but we need the specific DTCs stored, because there's a TON of different things that can cause this. Any advice at this point would be a needle in a haystack without knowing more specifics. Kinda like the advice you're giving.

Also, a flashing CEL should be taken much more seriously than you are taking it. He should not be running his engine and listening to injectors, etc. He should be getting the car towed to a dealership to get it fixed. Further running of the car can cause serious damage with a flashing CEL. Yes the flashing CEL can indicate possible damage to the cat but it can also indicate there is enough of misfiring or other problems to cause serious damage to the engine. Read the owner's manual, it says to immediately pull over and turn the car off if the CEL flashes.

So b18c1eg2, take a stab at what I pointed out above and ignore the shouting for the time being.
I shouted to try and be heard over the BAD ADVICE he's being given about his CEL. You're misleading him, when you don't know what the cause of his misfire is. You get more than just a single DTC code when you get misfires. Those combination of codes is important to finding the problem.

PS: I'm disappointed about the mindless shouting "have it towed to the dealer" instead of some constructive advice.
How arrogant. You give incorrect advice, particularly in a matter like this, and then be arrogant enough to tell us we're wrong. The last guy who failed to get his car towed to the dealership ended up running his car just enough to destroy the entire engine, and had to replace the entire engine. Think before you post.

Read the owner's manual and helm manual. A flashing CEL is NOT something to take lightly and toy around with. The BEST advice he has right now is to get the car towed to the dealership.

That's enough of this BS.

b18c1, get your car to the dealership ASAP. Create a new thread when you have an update for us, as I'm closing this one.
