Default Engine light flashing after being stored a while

Hi guys n gals,
I have been an s2000 owner for sometime and my car has been in and out of storage the last 5years or so. Today I had to move the car. I had a problem with a siezed caliper I managed to get working. Anyhow when starting the car the engine light comes up flashing, after a while it stayed on permanently. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?

Seems it idles fine but revving it is lumpy. I left the jump pack on the battery when I moved it so I dont think it would be low battery causing the CEL.

Thanks for your help

Flashing cel is not good. Indicates you shouldn't keep driving. Also sounds like it might be in limp home mode. My guess is its a misfire.

But its not much use speculating. The whole point of the cel is it throws a code that tells you what it detected wrong. So you need an obd code scanner to read the code. Its good to have one of these. They are on sale at Harbor Freight all the time if you want one cheap, but decent. Or just rent one from someplace.like AutoZone (you could just drive to AZ and they will scan, but not clear, the code for you for free, but not sure if that is an option as it sounds like car is still in storage).

Read the code, then post whatever codes are read up here, and will can give suggestions what to do next.

It's best to just go get a scanner.

It's kind of tough to say what it may, or may not be.

Since you say it's a flashing CEL, don't drive it. I had a flashing cel on my AR, and the timing was off.

If I had to guess as to what it was, I would say misfire.

As the guys already mentioned above, DO NOT DRIVE your car.

Get and OBD II reader from amazon for less than $5
Then if you have an Android phone you can also download Torque for Google play for another £3.99
With less than $10 bucks you have the ability to get the error code yourself.

Post here the code and someone will get back to you with what exactly you got.
(or alternatively search forum for error codes – there are multiple threads)

Best of luck!

Are you saying you've barely driven it in 5 years? Is it on the same tank of gas....?

My friend had a problem with mice storing grain by his cam belt. When he started it up the belt skipped some teeth. Obviously the s2k has cam chain but thought id share that story with you.

I do have an obdII scanner brand new in the box so I guess nows the time to give it a whirl. I'll report back with the findings.

The car hadnt been started for about a year. I did add some new fuel prior to starting also. The car is fitted with an AEM v2 cold air intake and invidia exhaust but I doubt this will throw up a CEL.

Did you add fuel stabilizer to the tank BEFORE storage? If not, its a good chance its bad gas. May also be clogged injectors due to varnishing from bad gas (so getting tank flushed may not fully cure it).

OBD II port is by the passenger's side close to the tunnel. You need to duck to see it.

I didnt add any fuel stabilizer and the tank is very empty. I did expect it to be something like this but i'll get the scanner on and see. The scanner I have is a bluetooth module thingy so I'll load the software on the laptop or pc then plug it into the car. The CEL doesnt show without the car running so will I need to start her up again in order to see the codes?

Thanks for the replies so far and for letting me know where the OBD port is. that was probably going to be my next question
