Default Engine Noise

I recently replaced my TCT with a Billman250 modded TCT. That noise is now gone, thanks again Billman.

Now... As before the TCT was fixed, there is still a very distinct noise coming from the Intake side of things. As I listen as close as I can, (without a stethoscope) I find it most prodominant when my ear is closest to the driver side firewall, right by the intake manifold/valve cover...

I have done the valves just 3k ago and I swear I triple checked them all. Set the Intake to .08 and exhaust to .10 and again, checked them all like three times around cause I was paranoid... Besides, I'm told that for the Valves to make this much noise they'd have to be WAY out of spec?

I know the F22c is a loud engine to begin with, but I think you'll find in the video this is too loud. I pull up to a Porsche, BMW, etc at a stop light... S2000 all waxed, detailed, full tank of 93, etc. And the guy looks over at me with this, "what the hell is that noise" kind of look...

Please help!

My thoughts are Injectors? Valves? Fuel Injection something? I am at a loss...

Are you talking about the tractor type sound which is clear in the beginning because that is the only thing I can hear and mine sounds the same. BTW when billman gave you the modded tensioner did he sand bast the worm gear? I imagine he did but just checking because that made a world of difference.

Billman TCT, yes, sand blasted the worm gear, guaranteed for life!

The noise I'm referring to is throughout the entire video. It's loudest right around 3-4k rpms. It's almost like a Turbo Deisel sound like on a newer style VW Beetle...

Again, I know our engines are naturally louder than some... But this sound was not there when I got the car 15k ago... It's like a valve is out of spec or an injector is... Hell, I really don't know ???

I am having trouble with the vid, there is too much overall noise.

take another clip. Record from inside the car, and on the SIDE of the car where the gas tank is. Get the noise on first start up.

Sounds nuts, but I will hear a bad TCT better from those spots.

Check some of the other TCT sound clips, they are unmistakeable.

I will take another clip tonight when I get home... However, The TCT noise on start up I get. Your right, it is unmistakeable for sure. That noise is now gone since I replaced the TCT.

This other noise is def coming from the Intake side / top of engine. It almost sounds like the valves, but I've been told they'd have to be WAY out of spec to be this loud? What would make Injectors get louder? Or is there another component around there that can tick/tap/slap/chatter?

I had a friend listen to it last night and they were like, "MAN, that doesn't sound good at all! I wouldn't be Redlining this thing until you get that fixed!"

I know it's hard to tell through a video... But the noise is so prominent... I'm having trouble understanding how others arn't hearing it... It sounds like a 2.0L Turbo Deisel

My car does it slightly as well. No idea what it is. Car runs fine. I'm not really worried about it.

Have you done a valve adjustment before? If not it is a 2hour job and many times you do not need to replace the gasket but get some gasket seal. If you think its the valves then a quick check would be worth the frustration I would think.

A better video would help greatly though.

I did the valves just 5k ago. I triple checked them so other than being paranoid, I know their done right. After the valve job the engine was super quiet. I would like to check them anyway, because I want to do the DIY Polished Valve Cover. I was pondering last night and I wonder if it's a tiny exhaust leak? It's directly related to rpms and seems to go away after 5k? Like maybe once the rpms are high enough it smooths out the putter of the leak? I don't know. Seems like I'd see smoke as much as I've looked around.

New video coming soon! Thanks for all the help!

When you put the camera under the car...I did hear a lot of whistling..which does sound like an exhaust leak. But can't say for sure cause of course the audio quality has a lot of distortion...But I can make out the "Turbo Diesel" sound
