Default Engine Problems

Hi All,

Im having an issue with my MY03 s2k.

For the past 2 weeks or so my car has been blowing out white smoke. THis is after the car is fully warmed up and during mid day. I thought ok must be a piston ring.

Did a compression test and Cylinder #4 had low compression.

I dont know what to do, should i pull the engine apart and rebuild? what if i just rebuild the cylinder thats having the problem? can someone please help advise me.

im a bit anxious and do not know where to begin.

Engine has 35,000km. no cel code.

looking for advice.

Thanks.

Pull the engine and rebuild all 4 cyls. Pulling the motor is the hard part, no sense in doing that for only one cylinder.

if you lost compression, and white smoke is coming out, your head gasket may be done. which in terms usually creates a leak of coolant into your cylinder, which is bad. GL.

Are you still running a cat?
Does the white smoke smell sweet? kinda like coolant?
Are you low on coolant?
how low was the compression in cyl 4?

First check all the easier possibilities. Pulling the engine can be done if it's neccessary.

Check your coolant level in the radiator - not in the coolant overflow! White smoke indicates water steam. Could be a head gasket or also a crack in the cylinder head itself.

If the compression wasn't low on #4 I would have thought of a blown intake manifold gasket. The water inlet is near by the intake runner of cyl.4

thanks for the above input from all.

I did a compression test and these were the results;

Cyl #1 - 11%
Cyl #2 - 11.5%
Cyl #3 - 10%
Cyl #4 - 9%

what other tests should i do before i pull the engine?

Are you low on coolant? yes coolant seems to be decreasing after topping up a few times. Smoking has progressively gotten worst
how low was the compression in cyl 4? - please see my previous reply.
Please see my answers to your questions in your quote.

tugsta, you've talked about a low compression on #4. But it looks like all cylinders are nearly equal. BTW, how should I read your table? Minus 9% from the regular value? Or only 9% compression at all??

regards

Could be coolant leaking into your engine.

If it's white, it's coolant.
If it's bluish, it's oil.
If it's black/gray, it's fuel.
