Default ENGINE REMOVAL

Hello,

I have a MY06 S2000 and cylinder 1 and 4 are scored. I need to take out short block to have it hot tanked and sleeved. The DIY section and for this topic it gave me this...

To give you an idea of how much i know, the most I've done with a car so far is change brakes, oil and other basic projects. I feel this is way over my head now but I managed to disassemble most of the engine and all that is left is the tranny and the short block.

I need to know how to take the short block out.

I watched a guy remove the motor from the top without taking off the tranny on this video.

Please advise me the easiest way take off my short block. I am unable find a really good DIY on how to remove an engine with tranny bolted to it.

I feel that I'm very close to getting this done, but now I'm stuck.

If anybody has removed this engine before and lives in the bay area and can help me out, I'd appreciate it. I don't have much cash (because I recently purchased this car), but I can give you hookups for aftermarket parts and I'm willing to pay a little.

Thanks,

-Ronny

I would just unbolt the tranny and lay it on the ground, then pull the motor alone from the top. Thats what I did when I was in the process of replacing my shortblock. It will probably be alot easier this way.

So the OP doesnt even know what a transmission looks like attatched to the motor, and he is going to try and rebuild the engine himself? Thats a scarry thought.

it can be done yanking both from the top. problem is the motor will need to be near 90 degrees lol and you will dick up the valve cover doing this. best/easiest way is the drop the subframe to the ground and lift the car up. bam, both removed attached.

you didnt search shit my friend. FI forum has tons of engine removal tips.

Hello,

Thank you for all your help. Right now I have an issue removing the driveshaft. There are 6 6 or 8mm bolts holding the shaft to the tranny. For the life of me, I cannot loosen them. Any suggestions?

Use an impact gun if you have air or hit the ratchet with a mini sledge hammer to brake them loose. Make sure you hold the ratchet in place so it doesnt slip off, otherwise you run the risk of stripping it
