Default engine replacement

I am considering rebuilding a new engine for my S. Yes buy a new block and do it from the bottom up. I was wondering for anyone out there who has done this what is required. I did a search on the board and I did not come across anything stating the actual process.

I could be wrong but do you have to drop the whole sub front suspension and all?

I have experience with engines rebuilds and swaps but this was with chevys.

So anyone back to the initial question... what's involved with swaping the engine in my S?

Thanks
scott

get a helm manual and it'll tell you all you need to know There are several chapters devoted to engine removal/repair/reinstallation, so that explains why you haven't seen any process written up on the board. the manual is quite thourough, both with order of operations and detailing the specifications of the parts.

I recently rebuilt the topend, and let me tell you this is one easy engine to work with! I'm technically minded, but this was the first engine that I've ever done work on engine internals with and I found the process pretty simple. The hardest part is dealing with the zillions of electrical connectors...some of them are a nightmare to plug/unplug.
you know what they say, it takes small hands to build small motors

you don't need to drop the suspension, but if you're not working on a lift i think you do need to drop the engine subframe. don't have the book in front of me so don't quote me on that.

The subframe is dropped to allow access to the top 3 tranny/engine bolts.

Is there something wrong with your current engine? Why not just rebuild it? What is your ultimate plan for the new engine (SC, Turbo, etc.)?

I thought it was around $6900, but I just talked to cjb80 and he quoted a number around $5600!
Not cheap, but good work never is.
