Default engine stops

Hello all,

I would like to ask for a help because i have problems with my honda.

I tried search forum but didnt find similar thread.

My engine stops and i dont know why ... when i drive and have gear everything is ok, but when i step on clutch and put neutral there, my revs fall but they fall below 800rpm and my engine stops

If engine is cold and idle revs are above 800 everything is ok, problem is when engine has optimal temperature and idle revs are 800, if i step on gas pedal and let revs go up little bit they dont return to 800 rpm but they fall below and engine stops

I tried replace air filter, because i have same problem on my old honda but looks like new air filter doesnt help

I hope someone can help me what could be wrong there cause im very sad of that.

Thank you very much for any help in advance

it is most likely your idle air control valve going bad/sticking. if only happens when you are snapping the throttle and the engine dies out, then the iacv is not able to move fast enough to bring up the idle. you can either try to clean it out with some throttle body cleaner, one safe for sensors. or replace the iacv. i would definatly just try clean it out real good. this is a very common problem. i use the honda throttle induction cleaner.

hope this is some help.

I had the same problem... Heres what I did...

1. Cleaned the IACV
2. Cleaned the Throttle body, and "map whack"
3. ECU Reset
4. Changed spark plugs

I didnt bookmark the pages for everything but a search of those keywords should bring it up....

Mine does this every few months and then it stops... guessing it is the ECU learning going haywire.... I haven't had to "fix" any of the sensors.

With the exception of number 4, it seriously costs you about 10 bucks so I'd save my money and do it myself.

Need map sensor cleaner, qtips, a toothbrush and rags. I'll even walk you through it if you have any trouble.

it has nothing to do with your map sensor, it has everything to do with the iacv. one other thing you can do to try alleviate this problem is to adjust the idle screw out some. i am a professionaly certified honda technician at a honda dealer. when we have this problem, which ocuurs regularly with almost all cars with an iacv. we hook up a scan tool and monitor the iacv counts.

the counts control the amount that the iacv will move. if iacv counts are too high, then when the idle drops low, it is allready maxed out and cannot bring up the idle enough and can cause a stall. adjusting the idle screw will bring back the iacv counts lower to about 8-10 counts and should bring the idle in spec.. avg honda spec for iacv counts about 8-10. honda recommend that you bottom out the idle screw fully. the turn out the oppisite way as much as needed, but no more that three full turns. anymore, and the idle screw can fall out. after adjusting the iacv screw, we put a small dab of touch up paint on the idle screw to prevent the screw from coming loose.

IT IS A BIG NO NO, NEVER BE BANGING ON ANY SENSORS. ESPECIALLY A MAP SENSOR. IS ONE OF THE MOST CRITICAL SENSORS. AND HONDA NEVER DID AND NEVER WOULD EVER RECOM TO BE BEATING ON ANY SENSOR. THAT MAP SENSOR FIX IS TO CHECK THE PIN FIT FOR THE MAP SENSOR. AND INSTALL A SPECIAL TIE STRAP THAT THAT FULLY SECURES THE MAP SENSOR CONNECTOR ON SECURLY ON THE MAP SENSOR SO IT WILL NEVER COME OFF AND CAUSE THE FAMOUS MAP SENSOR PROLEM OF THAT HESITATION OR TIMES OF NO PWR.
