I was trying to identify a rattle in my car, and in doing so, was holding the rpm at 7,500. After about three or four times of holding the rpms up and listening to the rattle, the engine started to buck or stumble - almost like a misfire. I'm not sure if it was a misfire, and there's no idiot light on in the car, but has anyone experienced this behavior in an S2000? The car operates fine as far as I know, was warmed up, and is stock.

I would check them in that order.

 

Had a very similar problem in my roomates car.... not an s2k but did dry gas, didn't help...then took the spark plugs out, they were bad, cheap fix, i would think about the plugs too.... with one bad, his would "misfire" or act up during high rpm's too.... hope that helps some. Good luck!

 

engine vibrations can cause shifting of the contacts at the MAP sensor. This may cause wear that changes the resistance of the connection at the MAP sensor

Corrective: replace MAP sensor, and install the MAP sensor holder Kit

theres a tsb out for that exact issue (assuming he doesnt have some other ignition or engine issue) which would prolly kick on a light if he did bad gas generally causes detonation due to low octane levels making it fire before the plug and making a generally loud knock....but the fuel filter is a possibility...but my money's on the TSB issue
