Default Engine thrust washer failure

The other day I was driving and all of a sudden the car just shut off. I attempted to start the car but it doesn’t even crank the starter. I can hear the starter click but it doesn’t turn over. I can hook up my flashpro and I get a good 12Volts until I crank it and then it drops to ~8volts. I have taken my battery and it tested better than its rating (brand new). I have checked the grounds at the battery, under side of engine, and transmission but still no luck.

2008 S2000 with mods in my signature. Any Ideas?

Bad ground somewhere? Did you recently work on the car to where you had to go disconnecting some grounds? Like the one towards the back of the head?

When you got your battery tested, did they charge it completely for you? The car still wouldn't start once the fresh battery was put back in?

When the starter clicks... Is it a loud one time click or a softer more repetitive click? The reason I ask is if the engine mysteriously died and now won't crank it may be locked up. You could test this by putting it into fourth gear and pushing it a bit to see if the engine turns freely. If not try some jumper cables from another car to the battery pos and the block neg. Good luck!

I found out what the issue was. The thrust washer is shot. It appears it slipped out of place and is stuck between the crank and block. My next question is what's the next step? Do I need to pull the motor or can I drop the griddle and inspect the block and crank for damage.

Pull the pan and inspect. The girdle can be pulled from the bottom also. Look for shavings, discoloration on crank or rods. A thrust washer can be installed with the girdle in place. I'd find a way to check end play also. Report back and let us know how it goes.

im confused because the first picture is with the oilpan off...its a picture of the crank and thrust washer. And the second pisture is of all the metal shavings found in the oilpan.

My bad. I was thinking more of what next as opposed to you've already pulled the pan. Can you get the rest of the thrust washer pieces out? Do you have a way to check for end play?
