Default Engine too cold to start?

Hi everyone recently the weather has been pretty cold in So Cal. 28-38 F during the night( I know its nothing compared to other areas that snow) I just wondering if my the reason why my car wont start in the morning is somehow related to the weather being cold.

I notice that after the thin layer of ice melted off the car and the sun came out the car started up with no problems. My battery is good, lights and music is on. Has anyone else experienced this same situation? Would a engine block heater be useful? Thanks if anyone can shed some light on my problem.

An engine block heater only works when the engine is running so that won't be of any use to you. Batteries are rated for cold crank amps. You might want to check the rating on your battery. If the rating is low, replace with a higher rated battery.

yes like he said, your battery voltage may still be good, but your CCA ( cold cranking amps) could be shot.......

I was thinking of a thermostat when refering to the engine block heater. Still ,this shouldn't be necessary in any moderate climate. I'm sure it's your battery.

Does "wont start" mean engine will not turn over? Or turns over but will not start?

So you are talking a totally dead battery......not even a click from the solenoid when you push the start button?

Its your battery....have it load tested. When the temperature goes down, the cranking amps go significantly lower. Thats why its easier to start when temperatures are warmer
