you can always use a sheet metal cutter to drill a hole in your factory heat sheild
This will save you money on buying a bad fitting aftermarket heat shield.
I am working on a template for the OEM heat shield so you do not have to guess on were to drill the hole. You will be able to get it right the first time.
I bought my J's ETD about two years ago, used off the for sale forum. I never installed it because I did not want to brake a part off of my $30,000.00 car.
I had not realized that you had to do this
so it sat.......and sat some more! I finally got around to trying to make something up that would allow me to install it without having to F-up my car doing so. This is what I came up with.Ya...The thing had and still has the rub mark on it were the A/C line was rubbing on the other guys car

Some pics of the first prototype
As it is now
Yup the heat shield from j's is not that good, i removed it and installed the OE shield back with a hol in it.J's would always rattle and touches everywhere. Had to modify it cos i have spoon headers. But now with the OE heat shield its so much better and no noise. The OE shield has those strengthing lines which doesnt make it rattle where as J's is just a straight piece always dancing!
Looks interesting. My thoughts:
1) Why the Japaneese didn't do it. Not needed by the majority of drivers (i.e. cost avoidence).
2) If it works they will steal it...as most here don't have the money to patent.
3) Trust me on 2 above...all those with OEM amuninum dead pedals, I believe '03 and after, have a fellow here on this board to thank (aka Richard Ming..the Mingster....later to become Import Automotive. Muz has been copied by HMC as well.
Question from the techno freak that I am. Is the plate 6061-T6 aluminum or 7075" If 7075 what heat condition? If 7075 is it clad? Is there any finish (i.e. clear anodize) or is it bare aluminum???? What rod is used for the weld? You can PM me if desired. Trust me I'm not going into the business just ant to make sure it will hold up over time.
Thanks,
Utah

The tech side of it I will get with you
I just made the hole for the ETD in the factory heat shield It is right on the money
I will be making the template for the heat shield so everyone can drill there own hole. This will save you money, time, and most important....a bad hole placement.
I know many of you have bought an ETD without a heat shield, or with a bad fitting heat shield like me
This is for you The hole looks like OEM so even if you remove the ETD the shield will still look stock to the untrained eye. The hole is 51mm or 2

Sweet, so the hole came out real nice? How does one get this template?
Also, how hard is it to preload the ETD...and how much do I preload it? Are there different settings?
Thanks!
Thanks for answering my question too!

ALSO...are you selling the ETD and the bracket or just the bracket?
Obviously I know the $65 is for the brcket, but do you stock the ETD?
Will the bracket fit on any ETD?
