since the eps literally translates to 'Electric assist Power Steering'. The first place to check would be the electric motor, its attached to the rack-check the harness plug and clean them. Check to make sure it isn't loose. There is also a ground wire from the rack to the subframe. Check that too...

I would look into all the proper fuse connections and wires that run from the eps motor. i know they tie into the body harness but where you can access the make sure none of the wires have snagged.

You can always run a continuity test using a voltmeter if you have one available...

hope this helps, im not an electrical guru, but i have seen where the eps mounts to and the general location...

Any mods with the car? did the situation arise suddenly or was it gradually getting worse until the light came on? any other car malfunction, specifically with the speedo?

No mods, totally stock 30k miles, the problem hasen't come back since the other day. It just happend within 5 mins of driving to work, I work close by. I will check out those locations jkuamoo, thanks for the heads up, I must agree and think its the fuses like the 7.5 one that other ppl tell me to check/change. I will do a follow up in a week just in case other ppl run into this shit.

Later bros

follow up

everything turned out to look ok, grounds, fuses, etc...Also did batt. disconnect, and the other day when I took a hard left it went out again...come to think of it, it always happens when I turn a hard left...

If I shut the car off and restart it the light goes off and the power steering comes back fully. WTF?

HELP PLZ HELP!

TY

check your steering rack for what happens during a hard left. maybe a plug or wire gets loose when you turn the steering wheel to left lock?

or maybe you can just avoid turning hard lefts lol

lol yeah I dunno bout that emdzey01...but if I turn the wheel to the left while parked it doesn't fail the eps, but during driving it does, so maybe there is something loose..I will take another look at the torque sensors and do another follow up again.

It has happened to me 2-3 times over the last 2 years. I turn the car on EPS is on, no power steering. Stop the car, restart and its OFF. Wouldn't really worry about it.

scan the codes and check them in the manual they are listed from 1-60 I believe mine turned out to be bad connection ground to the frame and loose harness connection as well. U need to run the codes, read and re read the whole eps chapter in the manual. Then follow instructions as listed, if u dont have a code reader u can use a paper clip instead and connect 9 and 4 ports, then u can see what codes show up by watching the blinking eps like, one long flash, followed by three quick flashes is 13, 8 quick flashes on its on means code 8. Hope this helps as I went to the school of hard knocks on the one and had to remove tons of parts like the intake system etc. to get to the torque sensor and body ground and sub micro-computer from the eps. The easiest way though is to take it to the dealer if u dont trust yourself. L

Best wishes,
Dz
