Default EPS Light on - Need to restart the car. HELP!

So I started noticing that EPS would come on after I start the car. The car would lose power steering. I would have to restart the car and everything will be back to normal. This has been happening more and more lately. What could be the problem?

This happened to me a few weeks ago. Was working on car with radio on and some lights. When I went to start it I think battery was taxed but did start. Eps light came on. Drove it a short distance turned key off. Restarted car and light was off and EPS worked fine. I thought I read somewhere that the EPS circuit checks voltage available at start up. If too low it trip the light and disables the EPS. Might be wrong but have had no problem since.

EPS has a tremendously comprehensive diagnosis ability transmitted by the EPS module. Spend the $100 at the dealer and have them diagnose the error light. This will be the best $100 you've ever spent.

Seems like these are the codes with the paper clip trick:
DTC: 32 A problem with the main current sensor offset
DTC: 37 A problem with the motor voltage

Any ideas?

I had the same thing, had a hand full of things I was working on/diagnosing, after changing out a few parts (O2 sensor, motor mounts, ect) turned the car on and the EPS was on. Made me worry a bit, but finally just decided to take it out for a drive, and by the end of my street the light went away and power steering came back.

I tried to do the EPS reset. The EPS light turned off, I started the car, and then the EPS light came on again. Removed the battery to check the connections and then hit the module a few times. Tried to restart the car again and nothing. Since I'm not able to get another owner to do a swap I ordered an EPS module on eBay. I'll swap the modules in a few days and I'm hoping this will resolve the problem. The next step might be to replace the steering rack if that doesn't fix it... by that point I'd be taking it some place to have the work done.

I had a similar issue recent with code 32, and I want to say 37. I ordered a new module off ebay and it solved the problem. It's much more likely that a power electronics unit went bad than something internal to the steering rack.

After restarting the car a few times the EPS light is now gone. The steering seems to be a bit more lighter than normal. I'm guessing that is from using an AP2 (2004) EPS unit. Otherwise everything is back to normal.

Step 1 - Swap out EPS Module by removing battery and then removing 4 bolts (same size as the nuts on the battery), pull the 3 plugs out, check to make sure no dust or debris are in the connectors, insert new module.

Step 2 - Do the EPS reset by doing the paper clip trick and the method of turning the wheel 45 degrees.

Step 3 - Make sure to remove paper clip

Step 4 - I noticed the EPS light turn on when you turn the key but disappears when the car starts. Drive around for a bit. After about 3-4 times starting the car the EPS light will finally turn off.

It is important that you check the code on the side of the EPS module. AP1 should swap with an AP1, but an AP2 (04/05) seems to have worked okay for me. The steering is a bit lighter but it is compatible. The price after shipping on ebay was $67. Swap out time is about 30 mins.

Does anyone know if the EPS light after turning the key should be coming on? When I do the paper clip trick it does not blink. When I do the reset the light goes out before I start the car. I remove the paperclip before restarting. Then after the restarting I turn the key and the light turns on... but goes out after I start the car.
