EPS Light On - No Power Steering
2006 w/ 40k miles
My EPS light came on in a parking lot pulling out of a space and I lost power steering. I used a paper clip to jump pins 4/9 and received codes 32 and 5. I took the EPS module out and cleaned the connectors, ground, battery terminals/connectors, and reset the torque sensor. It was fine when I tested the steering in the garage but turned off again today leaving a gas station, the first drive since I cleaned and reset everything. The problem seems to kick in once the car is warm, restarted, and at <5mph speeds.
My question is should I start with replacing the EPS sensor or address something else?

Battery is 12.7V turned off and 13.9 idling.
It seems I can avoid the EPS light coming on by not turning the wheel too much at very slow speeds. It’s like the electrical draw is too much at those low RPMs and it kicks on the light and disables the power steering.

Did you reset the EPS? Pretty sure this is the technique I used a couple of years ago when my EPS disabled itself on my lift when I turned the steering wheel with the wheels off the pavement.

Here is the procedure.
With the car off, and the wheel straight do the following
1. Using a paper clip or backprobes, connect PIN 9 to PIN 4 on the ODBII connector.
2. Turn the steering wheel 45 degrees to the left
3. Turn the ignition switch on (II)
4. The EPS Light will be on for 4 seconds, when it goes out do step 5
5. Turn the steering wheel Straight, and release
6. The EPS Light will turn on in 4 seconds, when it goes out do step 7
7. Turn the steering wheel 45 degrees to the left
8. The EPS Light will be on for 4 seconds, when it goes out do step 9
9. Turn the steering wheel Straight, and release
now the EPS light will blink twice after you relase the wheel, within 4 seconds. then it will blink 5 times.
If the EPS light stays on, you will have to do this process again.
