Default EPS problem??

Hello, my car was sitting for bout a month in the garage and when I went to turn it on and drive the EPS starting freaking out. Right when I powered it on the steering wheel shot all the way to the left as far as it can go… power steering is tough when turning right when I tried to drive it but turning left it was working but had a few bumps, it wasn’t perfectly smooth alll the way around. Idk what’s happening to it. The EPS light never turned on. I’m gonna do an ECU reset tomorrow but if anyone has ideas that would be great

also I only have 37k miles it shouldn’t be broken or anything

Sounds like a bad EPS torque sensor. It's a common problem on these cars as the grease in the sensor dries out. My symptom was that power steering only worked when turning right, and the car would wander right at low speed if I took my hand off the wheel. I never had an EPS light.

I cleaned and re-greased mine but it was too far gone. A new one from Honda fixed it, for about $460.

You need to perform the EPS neutral position re-learn. Where are you located?

sorry I took so long to respond, I did an ecu reset and it pretty much fixed it not 100% but like 95%. Anyways the problem just came back. I’m located in Miami Florida. Should I try the eps relearn or do the regrease? I’m thinking the relearn because when I reset my ecu it started working again

Ecu reset is not the same as the torque-neutral-position relearn. I have seen this problem before. Any time there is high torque in one direction.

Yes, try the EPS reset first. The procedure is quick and easy but one of those things that I was completely unable to understand from reading. Check out the video below.

I know it’s not the same but it was the first thing I thought of the day I posted this and it did end up fixing my power steering for a couple days. I’m gonna look into trying the eps reset

I’m a noobie when it comes to electric stuff so I wanted to make sure do these clips work? I’m going to try the method from the video and connect the brown wire on the eps to a ground

Might try the paperclip method but it sounds scary because i read that some guy messed it up and his car won’t start anymore. What do you think billman
