ive over revved a b16 to 13,400rpm with no damage... guess im just lucky

13.4k? how did you know it went that i high? aftermarket tach maybe?

A bigger problem with timing chains is that the tensioners 'fail' and the chain can skip a few teeth on the cam drive. The mis-timed valves then either hit the piston or the opposing valves. Either way it's a mess.

Honda had some problems with cam-chain tensioners on their bike engines (the early V-4 VF750 especially). So they are either:

* worth worrying about due to previous history
* not worth worrying about as they'll have learned
