Anyone ever used one of these?

I am a pretty much hardcore DIY'er and wanted to see if I could get some feedback on the product. Not sure if this was the 'correct' forum to put it in, but hopefully I can get a few people that have used it.

Pretty much I know it's good for tracking the car, but I want to see if its precise enough for a DD car. I just got an alignment and it feels good, but had I seen the price of 150 for this, I woulda got it instead.

I know it doesnt do toe, but harbour freight has a nice cheap tool that will do it, and this tool also has an attachment for it.

So anyone used it before?

 

You'll need a way to verify your floor is level, and most people use turntables on the front to make the caster/camber sweeps easier.

They work, but I wouldn't say they are easy to use.

 

They advertise that you dont need a level floor... that there is a way to calibrate it.

IMO I would rather have something that works, but takes a little time to get used to over having it aligned at a shop, and waiting for them to beat the crap out of my car.

* I just got it aligned, and upon its return, the brakes smelled like a semi truck. I didnt know it was my car or I woulda raised hell.

 

I've aligned 125cc ShifterKarts using similar equipment. I don't know how they are calibrating for a non-level work surface. You will be using tape measures, bubble levels and some math to do an alignment.

 

Just my two cents worth, but aligning this car with anything less than a good Hunter laser alignment setup is a PITA. IMHO it is well worth the effort to either find an alignment guy you can trust (someone who does lots of race cars if possible) or find a place that has good equipment that you can rent for doing the job yourself.

You certainly CAN align this car accurately with basic alignment tools, but the interactions make it worth paying a bit more for access to SOTA alignment equipment.

 

They do work. With that being said they are somewhat gard to use. I had one for a short while when I wa racing a Porche that I owned. There are better units on the market that can be used while at the track.

 

I wouldn't expect a great degree of accuracy with one of those. The only reason I could see owning and actually using one of those is if I was doing autocross and needed to make adjustments on the fly for better handling on the track. That thing is no match for a real Hunter laser aligner...plus, accuracy is within .01 degrees. Just my $.02
