Default Fender Bender :(

So my friend backed into me, and now i need a bumper, headlight, headlight frame, and fender. I was thinking about going to junkyard and grabbing some used parts ( friend is going private party). My question is is used vs new parts going to affect my paintjob or the life of the paint after i get it paintmatched?

If you are going to paint only the used parts, a good preparation must be made. As long as the workshop does a good job in general I don't believe that you will have any significant problems. If he just paints them on top without any preparation then you might have problems by chipping etc. But then again, if he does is that way, it won't be such a good workshop after all.

Chances are, paint won't match. They'll need to blend. Just tell them (the body shop doing the paint) that you need them to blend the paint.

On a 2008?

I'd go through insurance and have it done properly. I got in an accident myself and am having to go through insurance to get 3/4's of the car painted and touched up.

Come on, you don't do that to a friend. Remember, it was his friend who backed up into him. So now his friend's ins. rates are going to go up. That's not cool.

I'd want my car back to perfect, or as good as where it started. If I had to run their insurance because he wouldn't pay for it, that's what I would do. No exceptions.

Hey man sorry to hear about your car. It kills me to hear stories of S2000s getting damaged like this.

Honestly, I would not go through insurance as some of the above people have suggested as it would kill your friend and would put you under the radar of the insurance company. However, I would ask your friend to pay for proper brand new parts instead of used parts from the junkyard...

Also, whether the paint will match highly depends on the color (to my knowledge). I just recently got my car (spa yellow) painted on one side (it got keyed) and the body shop said that for my color they are unable to match nor blend it (=/). Lol, they told me they would color match 100% when I was deciding whether to go with them or not -.-".

*edited for paint info

His friend shouldn't have backed into him.

Besides - a real friend would feel bad and want it fixed right. If I backed into a friend's car, I would insist he use the best body shop covered by my insurance.
