I am seriously considering installing the Jet's final gear set ($800USD++), that changes final reduction from 4.1/1 to 4.3/1, basically giving 5% more torque at the wheels throughtout the whole range.

I don't see a problem with max speed (theoretically goes from 276 to 262km/h, still higher than the real max speed).

The only problems I can see are:
1) 5% higher revs for the same speed (more noise, more consumption)
2) If the install is not properly done, I may need another set sooner than expected.

Am I missing something? and do we all agree that, although I need to upshift sooner (for instance, when going from 1st to 2nd, instead of upshifting at say 60km/h, I'll have to do it at 57km/h) in the end I still get a faster car?

How do you get the 276 km/h figure? The car is officially quoted for 150 mi/h, which gives us 241 km/h...do you have any mods?

Greetings to Portugal, I've got a very good friend who is Portuguese here in London...

Theoretically, not official! it's 30km/h x 9200 (rev limiter)= 276km/h. If I lower the final ratio 5%, I get 28.5*9200= 262km/h, still higher than the official max speed.

Just to add to my post, another obvious disadvantage is that the speedo will be off another 5%.

ummm the ATS set is in the tranny isnt it?
the ring+pinion is made by spoon and the other one is carried by MG racing?

I think the ratio's are different between the two tranny/diff or the amount of change rather.

right, I would also like the diff set, but I originally wanted a 4.5 or 4.55:1 and then top speed at 9k rpm would be 150 even, and more low end, and not even touch the tranny.

I agree completely with the gearing concept. I'm willing to lose top end Max speed for more acceleration (and live with higher rev's at a given speed). The price is stiff, as mentioned elsewhere, compared to Pony cars (like the first thing Saleen does).

I would like the speedo correction though. It is not critical as you can become adept at on-the-fly speedo translation (ever run KPH vs. MPH for a while?).

I agree with Penforhire...I would also trade max speed for better low end power.

How much does MG Racing sell the ATS Final Gear set for?
