first oil change
I bought my 03 s2k in late fall of 03 and only put 1700 miles on it before I put it into stoarage. I am curious what the first scheduled oil change should be. I've heard that Honda puts some sort of additive in the crankcase and that you should not change it before 3,750 miles, however this seems rather lengthy. Any feedback would be appreciated.
What you end up doing is a matter of your own conscience but do what Road Rage does (he's an oil expert). He has an '04, change his oil at 1000 miles and adds a can of high moly additive. Search for his posts to see the name of it.
at this rate, it 'll take you a year - 2 years to get 3750 miles. that time interval is ridiculous for any type of dino oil. change it out at 6 months or 3750 miles, whichever comes first. olympic auto parts has a moly additive you can buy or you can add the moly additive that road rage used(i dont remember the name of it though, search).
The simple thing to do is go to Pep Boys and buy a bottle of Valvoline MaxLife Engine Protector - it has everything you need to fortify the oil to the level that oil analysis confirms is equivalent to what Honda fills the engine with. You should have zero worries and fresh clean oil in your engine - the perfect combo.

), but wasn't able to find a specific answer. My '04 is coming up on 1K miles, and I plan on an oil change as well as changing out the diff (w/ LE 607) and transmission lube (w/ Honda MTF)Dean (obviously search engine challenged)

Here's what I don't quite understand (no flame intended)
The OEM oil shows a high level of moly in it.
Moly is an additive that reduces friction on metal to metal.
Why then, is the use of synthetic oil not recommended before some minimum mileage elapses? (from my reading, anywhere from 3750- 10000 miles).
If the goal is to 'friction reduced' regular oil, what possible harm could a synthetic have which is already 'friction reduced' by its nature.
In addition, if you have a garage queen which doesn't get used everyday, you get the benefit of oil film cling if you use a ester synthetic for reduced wear on start up, and start up would be the worst offender for wear for a non-race car.
