Uh, guys, the original oil is black because it contains all the remnants of the moly lube they use to assemble the engine (and some break-in oils have moly added, but I am not sure if that's the case with the S2K). This has nothing to do with the condition of the oil itself.

My Acura RDX came from the factory with synthetic, and that oil was black from moly too. There were a ton of panicked people posting on the various RDX forums thinking they had major engine/oil problems, but it was simply the moly. Nothing to worry about. Don't take it as a sign that you need to change the oil, because you'd be wrong (and possibly defeat the purpose of the having moly in the oil for break-in).

With the oils today, per road rage, you really don't have to change your oil until 5k, synthetic usually 12k. It's really your call if you want to use synthetic with your 1st oil change. I think the manual states that you should wait at least until 10k to switch to synthetic. Has to do with the piston rings or something like that.

On my 07 I waited until 4k (dino oil), 7k (dino oil), and then at 10K (Syn oil)

The S2K does have a special break-in oil from the factory. That is unusual these days but true. Follow the manual and do NOT change it early. Or do whatever you want but at least know you're going against Honda's best engineering recommendation.

I haven't decided if I'll switch to full synth on my first change. More likely on the 2nd just to assure break-in.

Leave the break in oil in the car until atleast 6500 miles because of the moly. I changed to syn at 11000 miles.

Well i had an 06 si with the indicator and i went to check the oil at 3k miles and noticed it was BLACK and i mean BLACK. the car was not abused or anything of that matter. i could only imagine what it would have looked at when the indicator got low. (almost 6-7k miles) i dont believe the indicator is correct.
Looking at the oil won't tell you anything in that situation. Get a UOA. Otherwise you might as well just throw darts to determine your OCI versus what the indicator tells you. Personally, I'd trust the indicator over the "eyeball" method.
