Flywheel replacement when doing the clutch
Morning everyone,
My MY08 is about to hit 80k miles in a few weeks and it's about time for a new clutch (the original is still on the car).
I'm fairly positive I'm going to go with an OEM clutch, but had a question about the flywheel. I know the AP2's tend to slip a little at WOT in the higher rpms, partially due to the CDV (which I will take care of when I replace the clutch) and partially because Honda increased the weight of the flywheel without upgrading the pressure plate. Was thinking of going with an AP1 or lightweight flywheel. So my question is: would an AP1 or even a lightweight flywheel make that big of a difference in terms of drivability with a stock AP2 clutch?
The car isn't raced at all and is mostly a sunny day drive to work car.
Thoughts, opinions and recommendations are much appreciated.

CDV + AP1 Flywheel works wonders... just CDV wont give you what you want. You can try it at first and see... and yes 80k is early for the clutch. If you do happen to change the Flywheel id just grab a used AP1 FW and resurface it. While you are in there its a no brainer to change out the bearings with OEM and even the TO Bearing Guide. Search a little and youll see what im talking about with what to replace.

Im at clutch #3 @ ~77K miles on my S2000.
. I've had plenty of DD's with 150K+ mile clutches.
80K really isn't that early for a S2000 unless you're heavily highway driving it. Typical street driving will result in some clutch slip at those miles...especially when shifting fast. The car makes more power than your accord, spins to higher RPM's, and I'm betting you're driving it to have fun. If you never drove it hard starting today, I'm sure it would last into the triple digits. But why waste a S2000 like that?
Clutches are expensive. I would remove the CDV first...or stop banging gears like a maniac. Both those can be done for free.
If the clutch does, indeed, need replacement, I'd definitely opt for Genuine Honda parts. An AP1 flywheel is a great upgrade for an AP2. I wouldn't go any lighter for a street car.
