Default Flywheels and engine RPMS

If i get a lightened flywheel would that affect my top speed at all?? and would it raise the number of RPMs it takes to get to speed?

Its not gonna raise your RPM's at speed it just might make your trip to top speed quicker.

This never made sense to me in the movie. Don't you only double clutch on the downshift? They were only upshifting right? I guess it just sounds cooler.

Your flywheel has absolutely no impact on the relationship between engine rpms and vehicle speed! That is purely a matter of gearing and tire size.

A lightened flywheel will allow you to rev your engine more quickly for shifts and such.

I spent quite a few hours creating a gear calculator web application so you can all tinker with the effects of changing variables related to gearing and the relationship between engine rpm and vehicle speed. Click here to go to my gear calculator program. S2000 values are built-in, just click on "Use S2000 Ratios".

HTH.

Rev, are those upper (6th) gear ratios correct..? I've personally been at 168 in 6th at around 7000 rpms... Would seem like I have about 20 more mph to work with.

This would only be possible if you are talking about km/h, not m/h. There is NO WAY your gearing is that high. I think I hit 6K rpms at about 100 mph in 6th.

What Rev and gernby said. Your speedo may have INDICATED 168mph, but assuming you have stock gearing and more-or-less stock tire circumference, 165 is all she wrote.
